HOFSTRA UNIVERSITY - R.O.T.C.

Cadet Francisco Fanelli

Friday, May 7th Hofstra University ARMY ROTC, Task Force Havoc Awards Ceremony was held in the Cultural Center Theater.  Army R.O.T.C. Cadet Francesco Fanelli was presented the Long Island Chapter Silver Award recipient for 2010 by Compatriot David Shields.  Cadet Fanelli is a Sophomore at Hofstra and lives in Farmingdale on Long Island.  In addition to the Silver SAR ROTC Award, he also received two other awards including the Reserve Officers Association Medal and the Battalion Commanders Recruiting Award.

Southold-Mattituck High School J.R.O.T.C. Cadet Lieutenant Junior Grade Kevin Reyer

of the North Fork of Long Island, was presented the following awards by Compatriot David Shields on Tuesday June 1st, as follows:  SAR Unit J.R.O.T.C. Cadet Bronze Medal, Long Island Chapter Most Outstanding J.R.O.T.C. Cadet Award, Empire State Society Most Outstanding J.R.O.T.C. Cadet Silver Medal, and a check for $ 500.00 from the National Society for placing 2nd as Most Outstanding J.R.O.T.C. Cadet in the Nation.  Congratulations to Kevin, his family and the outstanding program provided by Major William Grigonis and his Naval Science Department.


2010 Memorial Weekend

Huntington Revolutionary War Cemetery

On Saturday, May 29th, flags were placed on the graves of 46 Revolutionary War Patriots and the SAR Revolutionary War Monument at the Old Burying Ground, 228 Main Street, Huntington, Suffolk County, by Compatriots and Historian Rex Metcalf and Hank Blachly.


National Cemetery at Pinelawn

Scoutmaster and Compatriot David Shields, led Boy Scout Troops 121, 332, and Cub Scout Packs 20, 84 and 363 from East Rockaway to the National Cemetery at Pinelawn in Famingdale, Suffolk County, to place flags on the graves in the early morning hours of Saturday, May 29th.


Three Village Girl Scouts

Compatriot Treasurer Albert Meyer along with our Chapter, supplied 30 Betsy Ross flags to several of the Three Village Girl Scout Troops to place on local Patriot Graves in Suffolk County.  We have cooperated in this with the local Girl Scouts for the past several years.


Rockville "Sand Hole" Cemetery, Lynbrook

Compatriot David Shields and members of Cub Scout Pack 363 and Boy Scout Troop 332 placed a Betsy Ross Flag on the grave of Revolutionary Patriot Seaman Robert Davison at the Old Rockville "Sand Hole" Cemetery on Merrick Road in Lynbrook, Nassau County.


Setauket Memorial Day Parade

Led by Chapter Treasurer Albert Meyer, Compatriots of the Long Island Chapter marched on Monday, May 31st in Setauket, Suffolk County, along with the Anna Smith Strong Chapter DAR to honor those to whom we owe so much.


East Rockaway Memorial Day Parade

Along with other Boy Scout Troops, Cub Scout Packs and Girl Scout Units, Compatriot and Scoutmaster David Shields marched with Troop 332 and with his grandson, Wolf Cub Scout Jake Shields in the annual Memorial Day Parade in East Rockaway, Nassau County, on Monday, May 31st.

S.A.R. Bronze Good Citizenship Awards June 2009

The following are photos from the S.A.R./D.A.R. Student Awards ceremony that took place at Huntington Town Hall on June 8, 2009. The Long Island Chapter S.A.R. was represented by Compatriots Rex Metcalf, Al Meyer, David Shields and Desander Mas. Making the D.A.R. presentations for the Ketewomoke Chapter was Lilian Najarian, Regent. The Long Island Chapter S.A.R presented 14 S.A.R. Bronze Good Citizenship Awards to 14 high school student.




S.A.R. Bronze Good Citizenship Awards June 2008

The Long Island Chapter S.A.R presented 15 S.A.R. Bronze Good Citizenship Awards to 15 high school student.


S.A.R./C.A.R. American Heroes August 2007

C.A.R. Honoring American Heroes Wreath Laying Ceremony at Callahans Beach where Elijah Churchill was wounded and became America's first Purple Heart recipient. This was followed with the C.A.R. honoring honoring our Veterans at the Northport VA Medical Center.
